Prayer Request

559b70d6117605d160971a6 In my former blog days, I introduced you to Lorie Johnson, a friend of my mom’s from church.  I’ll make a long story as simple and short as possible.  Lorie has a son that is almost exactly Jackson’s age and when Noah was 4 months old, she and her husband, Daryl, found out they were expecting again.  Two boys spaced 13 months apart is really enough to pray for, but just wait.

During Lorie’s second trimester, she discovered a lump during a self breast exam.  After a battery of medical tests, her doctors informed her that she had an advanced stage of breast cancer.  They agreed that the hormones involved with pregnancy and childbirth likely sped up the growth and development of the tumor.  They had to begin chemotherapy treatments as soon as possible,  in addition to surgery.  Little Zachary endured several chemotherapy treatments in utero and was born with no problems a few weeks early.  This was in May 2007.

Fast forward several months, they find another tumor.  Later, a few spots on her bones…I’m not even positive at this point where all the cancer has spread.  But after enduring an awful lot of pain and weekly trips to M.D.A. Cancer Center in Houston, TX, a hospital in Birmingham found several brain tumors during a cat scan.  This happened just after Christmas.  At this point, Lorie is on comfort care with a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 1/2 year old.  She has elected at this point to no longer see her boys, as it will only make her pain greater.  Daryl is spending all his time with her at the hospital, and the boys are staying with family and friends.

I don’t even know how to ask you to pray for her.  The hope in me wants to pray for a miracle, but the realist in me knows otherwise.  Please join me in lifting up Lorie, Daryl, Noah, and Zachary.
